A 4-step process to get started with digital marketing
What do you need to keep in mind when starting with digital advertising?
The first step to get started with digital marketing is to build your persona. What we mean by building your persona is that you need to define who your audience is, and who you want to communicate with through digital marketing.
For your business to build your persona you must find out who your ideal customer is and target your marketing to them.
For example, you might not want to show your tickets for a champion’s league final to an audience who is not interested in football, because they won´t be interested in buying those tickets.
To make the process easier, you can start off by analyzing these key indicators:
- Age
- Sex
- Interest
- Occupation and income
- Geographical position
The main purpose is simple: if you want to target the right audience and your potential ideal customer, you need to exclude people who don’t match your target group.
The second step is to create content that you can push out on social media through digital advertising. What kind of content? People get caught up in all kinds of different clichés on social media. Design creatives that sell, be creative. But in our opinion, the definition of great content is valuable information. You can express this in your way through plain text, videos or pictures. The important thing is to deliver your message to your target group.
Where can you deliver this message and how? There are various platforms that allow you to deliver your message directly to your audience; for example, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn or Google.
The positive thing about publishing your content through these platforms, is that you can leverage your content by advertising on the platform and win the attention of your audience.
The third step is to develop a strategy for your marketing campaign. When we say develop a strategy, you should also select a social media network and choose an online advertising platform. Ideally you should be present on all platforms where your ideal customer is present, but it's easier to start with one or two. Meta business manager is undoubtedly a favorite starting point for the majority of digital marketers. On the platforms you choose it is your job to leverage the creatives and content that you made in the second step.
The fourth step is to analyze the outcome. A digital marketing campaign is not completed when it is launched, it requires continuous results analysis. It is important to pay close attention to the statistics and data you get from your campaign system.
A traditional way to slowly scale your business is to work with data-driven-marketing. This means that the marketing you do is driven by the data you collect. When the ads have started running, you start to gather information that you can use to make decisions for optimizing the ads. We like to call this leakage analysis. This is where you want to look for possible leaks and then implement a solution.
